Inge Hoppe-Grabinger

no music - no more ?

If there was - just imagine - no music at all
if we had never heard its mysterious call
if we knew not a single beautiful song
we'd guess that there was something totally wrong.

If melodies were for ages unknown,
if you knew but the sound of raindrops alone,
if instruments were forbidden to touch
you'd know that life doesn't count very much.

If harmonies were regarded as lies
if sounds could be used as movable spies,
if rhythm abused for marches alone
you'd know that you'd freeze up to the bone.

If there was - just imagine - no music no more
and nothing but endless noise in store,
how senseless life would  certainly be...
Oh, I yearn, Oh I yearn for a melody ..............
