Patrick Rabe

Gates Of Zion

I was ridin' the lightning of a rock'n roll show,
I missed the moment when it was time to go.
Jesus cried a tear, Satan gave me a grin,
the door was open wide, and me, I walked right in.

I found broken roses, all of them were thorned,
I remembered voices I heard, when the new morning dawned,
I saw fire burning, turning men to clay,
I saw a band of angels, they were all coming my way.

I passed the gates of Zion, I heard a panflute sound,
I saw the tarts and liars outside there, hangin' around.
I knew, the lamb was inside spreading mercy like a sun,
And I remembered friends of the times, when I begun.

I shared the law of karma, just to check it out,
it threw me into hell, I learned, what it's about.
You just can't pay the price, to set your spirit free.
At the dead end I met Jesus, he was looking right at me.

"My baby, will you follow love, and take the gift for free,
release your prisoners at once, and give your life to me?
Then you'll rejoice for evermore, your heart with peace I'll fill!"
I reached out for the given hand and whispered: "Lord, I will!"

The darkness has no force over them who live in grace,
love is the bloodred central thread, that leads you through the maze.
You may look like a scarecrow, but you're feelin' like a king,
you praise the father and the son, and spirited you'll sing!
