Remembrance




Remembrance
 
 
Through the long winter night
of my mourning
a consoling light
out of times gone long ago
days of love to me show.
 
 
Blue was the distant hill
like the laughing eyes
that never more will fill
my heart anew.
O, days with you!
 
 
We rolled in the grass
with joy and youth,
we ran along the path
which led from town
to the river down.
 
 
Now the path they pave,
gone is the green,
you sleep in your grave.
Aged I‘m left till today
prepared to tread the dark way.
 
 
Springtime of love so sweet
short were your hours!
Fall covered with dust and weed
your pride and harmony...
remembrance only to me.
