Wendy C. Barton

Underneath

I see my reflection
it hasn't changed
still the same intention
perfectly staged

A smile always painted
always the same
even if I fainted
it would remain

As the shell begins to crack
I flutter to conceal
exposing neatly packed
wounds, that refuse to heal
