Karl Wiener

Hope

The sky is overcast by gray,

the wind pushes rain across the land

and lets feel the coldness twice.

The cat purrs softly near the stove,

even the dog stays in the house.

I look through the window down at the street:

The drops are dancing on the puddles

like little dwarfs with pointed caps.

However, wind breaks up the clouds,

last drops are falling down to earth.

First sunbeams flash now through the gap,

reflected by a window glass.

I’m looking up, and there I see

a wide spanned rainbow in the sky

as if drawn by magic hand,

so glorious and colourful.
