Delay
 
One April afternoon
I’m waiting at the station
of a small sea resort
for the arrival of guests.
Wind sweeps the platform.
The train is unduly delayed.
 
People are standing
in groups chatting.
Some stroll to and fro
with murmured complaints.
Laughter arises and dies out,
torn away by the breeze.
 
The loudspeaker crackles –
a sleepy voice announces
some further delay.
 
It is useless to look
along the tracks
or to watch any longer
the sailing gulls in the sky.
 
People get cold hands,
cold feet and cold noses
as Spring
is unduly delayed too.
