The Concept Of Our Love

Wasn’t it all just pretend when I slammed the door behind you

And you were hiding away for days on end

When both of us knew

Despite how endlessly stupid and heated our fights were

We'd always start this love anew?

Lonely days and hurt feelings have never meant much to us

Every time I laid my head down to sleep, the memory of you was giving me a buzz

Butterflies and stomachaches

Is this what it is all about?

I started missing you, stopping by our favorite lakes

Weeks and weeks had gone by and I began to doubt

the concept of our love could hold it’s ground

One shiny day you reappeared in our garden

Finally I could understand what it all meant

When you walk away, you always leave your heart at my doorsteps

My anxiety and tendency to overthink make for such good traps

I was waiting for so long

For you to come home

I can’t believe

You’re holding me

I’d say we’ve come a long way to get to where we are now

I will try not to be so anxious anymore and

Stop hiding behind the worst case scenarios created by my mind

If only I could figure out the right words

To tell you how I feel

Instead I’m holding you tight

Making sure you’re real

Will you please never call me again

As long as you’re out there?

In the meantime I’ll change the sheets, prepare our dinner

Everything will go back to normal

Sooner rather than later

And you will return asking for forgiveness in the hall

I’d say we’ve come a long way to get to where we are now

I will try not to be so anxious anymore and

Stop hiding behind the worst case scenarios created by my mind

If only I could figure out

If only I could

I’d crumble and I’d cry

You’ll always be mine

Now I can believe

You’ll leave but always come home again
