Bushfire

A frightened koala screams
a wombat in anguish squeals
they try to escape from fire,
rolling like a sparkling tyre,
that ignites the bushy outback -
great anxiety in the neck,
creatures burn, fall asunder,
all over lightning, thunder,
in the devastated nature
survivors feel themselves poor,
but within a certain time
plants grow through layers of grime.
