Resilience ... modern, but 2000 years old
..
What a miserable captain
who finds the slightest storm unpleasant
who doesn't brave the wind and waves
but instead curls up in his warm cabin
beds himself on soft pillows and laments his discomfort
He, who hasn't even attempted to fight
who gazes fearfully out of the porthole
and leaves the steering of the ship through the rocks
to the old, experienced sailor
.
That brave helmsman
who became fearless and resilient
because he faced life's difficulties day after day
who constantly practiced knowing life and himself
and made the most of every single hour
no matter how difficult, no matter how arduous
and whatever fate threw at him
readily accepted it and tried to turn it to good
.

Was für ein erbärmlicher Kapitän
dem der kleinste Sturm unangenehm ist
der nicht Wind und Wellen die Stirn bietet
sondern sich in seiner warmen Kajüte verkriecht
auf weichen Kissen bettet und sein Unwohlsein beklagt
Er, der noch nicht einmal versuchte zu kämpfen
der ängstlich aus dem Bullauge schaut
und das Steuern des Schiffes durch die Felsen
dem alten, erfahrenen Seemann überläßt
Jenem tapferen Steuermann
der furchtlos und widerstandsfähig wurde
weil er sich Tag für Tag
den Schwierigkeiten des Lebens stellte
der sich beständig darin übte
das Leben und sich selbst zu erkennen
und jede einzelne Stunde nutzte
sei diese noch so schwer, noch so mühselig
und was ihm das Schicksal auch vor die Füße warf
bereitwillig annahm und versuchte es zum Guten hinzuwenden
