Rainbow effect

I fell in love at first sight with the traffic warden. He was doing his job out in the rain, and his smile looked so fresh that I was positive: he, too, was in love. And why not with me, to make things work out, for a change? He gave a sign. That surely was for me? I heard a truck horn, but I went for it, right towards the traffic island, in the middle of the crossroads.

“Silly Billie!”, he yelled at me? And asked who I was to hassle him at work during rush hours.

“Come on! It was you, who wanted a lift”, I replied in helpless self-defence.

But in the meantime, there was a collision. In fact, a multiple pile-up was taking place, behind us. Why does everybody have to be so bull-headed and self-serving?

I got out of my car, gave the warden a signal of my own, and went home on foot. For the wreckage I had, apart from a fine, to give my signature to one of his ugly colleagues. Or was it him? Probably, it had only been the lights across the windscreen wipers that had made him look so splendid.
