James Woods

Fairy Glen

They spoke of strange happenings
after dark in Woodland Place,
this hidy hole of secrets,
that never leaves a trace.

In darkness I wandered
throughout this wooded glen.
Was just about to cease my search,
I turned around and then!

A tinkling sound of music
with softly flickering lights,
surrounded me with pleasure,
to my sheer delight.

Lilliputian fairy folk
about me formed a ring.
Accompanying the music
to the melody did sing.

I felt myself grow tiny
and shrank down to the throng.
a host of nymph-like beings,
I joined them all in song.

Delightful elfin creatures
dressed in forest greens,
gently danced in rhythm
with exquisite fairy queens

Intrigued I gazed about me
at this transcendental scene,
enraptured with their music,
spellbound at what I’d seen..

Then once again expanding
until I’d regained my height.
Darkness then descended
as they disappeared from sight.

“Pay heed. If you’re adventurous,
to what the old folk say.
One night it may be your turn
to watch the fairies play.”
