MYSTIC ISLAND.../PART 3A /...The Era of the Storm Priestesses:

 

Knowledge and Sacrifice

 

 


The first people had given the island its name.
But it was the Storm Priestesses who truly understood it.
They were not rulers, not warriors, not queens.
They were listeners—women who had learned to interpret the language of the island.
Their voices were quiet, yet the island listened to them.

 


The first among them was Aralyn, a woman with hair like dark storm rain and eyes that saw more than light.
She felt the Sky Chasm beneath her feet like a heartbeat.
She knew that the island was not merely alive—it was waiting.
Aralyn introduced the rituals that would later become sacred:
Songs that calmed the wind.
Dances that soothed the sea.
Offerings that silenced the Sky Chasm.

 


But every ritual came at a price.
And the island demanded it without mercy.
The chronicles tell of nights when the sky opened and the clouds bore faces—twisted, whispering, watching.
Of days when the sea boiled as though something beneath it was breathing.
Of winds that formed words no human was ever meant to speak.
Yet all of this was only a prelude.

 


One evening, as the full moon hung above the island like a silver gateway, a storm appeared unlike any that had come before.
It did not come from the sea.
It did not come from the sky.
It came from the earth itself.
Aralyn stepped out alone, barefoot and unafraid.
The storm formed a circle around her, as if testing her.
Then something happened that no priestess had ever dared before:
She stepped into the storm.

 


The others saw only light—white, red, black—and heard a sound like a thousand voices whispering and screaming at the same time.
The wind tore at the trees, the sea reared up, and the Sky Chasm pulsed like an enraged heart.
When Aralyn returned, she had changed.
Her hair was white as ash.
Her voice was rough as broken stone.
And her eyes... her eyes saw things no human should ever see.
She spoke only a single sentence:
“The storm has a heart.”

 


Afterward, she wrote the final entry of her age into the chronicles—with a trembling hand:
"We did not create it.
We awakened it."
And then she remained silent for the rest of her life.
The Storm Priestesses now knew that the island was not merely sleeping.
It was dreaming.
And sometimes...
it dreamed of wrath.
