Antonio Justel Rodriguez

ON POETRY AND ITS VALUE

…if poetry, its rhythm, its harmony and melody, is to serve any purpose,

let it be to urge forth the light;

for, oh, the light and the fires,
oh, oh, the fire that wreaks havoc on death with just the hymn that beauty instructs!

…while it is and remains here, with its ephemeral gift, the word,
while it pulses and penetrates and ignites the soul, the exegesis of the world,
ah, my heart,
while it makes us vibrate, feel, and live,

and take flight and be reborn—

is not poetry a most beautiful breath of being, your true vessel, your burning rose?

Tell me, brother heart, tell me, is it not…?
