Rainer Tiemann

Late realization

When you were young, you told me
you had so many good friends.
When you were forty, you told me
you had only ten good friends.

Did you ever realize
that one friend in a lifetime is good luck,
that two friends is more than good luck?

Did you ever realize
that to have more than two friends
is hardly possible?

You´ll realize, when you are older:
Age leaves us sometimes one good friend
and perhaps some good bottles of wine.

An manches gern, an manches weniger gern.
