In A Friendship Center

Raindrops on leaves,

shadows flowing in

dampen colours

of hand-made baskets

in the vitrine.

Hes leaning his legs

on a polished desk

and waits for phone-calls

never been done tonight,

he tells me of a woman

who left California

because of her husband,

now she has no stay.

one of many social cases

a worker deals with

in such a friendship centre.

Two hours passed

with talking

nobody comes.

Time passes slowly

as raindrops,

trickling down

from outside

leaves.

In einem Begegnungszentrum

Regentropfen
an Blttern.
Eindringende
Schatten
dmpfen
die Farben
handgeflochtener
Krbe in der Vitrine.

Er legt seine Fe
auf einen polierten Tisch
und wartet auf Anrufe,
die diesen Abend
nicht kommen,
Er erzhlt mir
von einer Frau,
die wegen ihres
Ehemannes
von Californien
fortzog und nun
keine Bleibe hat.
Einer von vielen
Sozialfllen,
mit denen sich
ein Sozialarbeiter
in einem solchen
Begegnungszentrum
befasst.

Zwei Stunden

des Gesprches

vergehen,

niemand kommt.

Die Zeit sickert

dahin wie die

Regentropfen,

die drauen von

den Blttern

rinnen.

This poem is related to my visit of the Native American Friendship Center in Montreal in the year 1982 and my conversation with a social worker there.

Dieses Gedicht bezieht sich auf meinen Besuch des indianischen Begegnungszentrums in Montreal und auf mein Gesprch mit einem dortigen Sozialarbeiter.
