HARSH LOVE

I watched as the wind made love to the trees
his touch was not gentle, his kiss did not please.
they whispered their anguish as he tore at their leaves
and he screamed as his passion sought its release.
 
The trees writhed and trembled in fear and in shame
as he rammed into their bodies again and again
and I crouched in the dark feeling helpless and small,
in the light of his power I was nothing at all.
 
the moon hid her face from his fury in pain,
the sky shed cold tears in the manner of rain
and I cried out in fear as I fell to my knees
the night that the wind made love to the trees,
