We played Bezique betwixt ourselves;
as daybreak burst through shuttered frame
with seven hours of pandered game
to set a gambler's eyes aflame
so now depart to five long bells.
Together there entwined as one;
eerie mist in smoke filled room
uneasy still of deadly tomb
embodied in this catacomb
as cover of the night has gone.
I entered this poem into a poetry copetition about 17 years ago, It was published for me and is still the only thing I have ever written that I have won something for, so thought I would give it another showing.Authors comment
