Fergal Dunne

The Final Hit

On the limbs of life I hang
As the needle enters the vein.
The sap soaks up the juices
And the leaves breathe life again.
The roots renew their hold
And the liquid feels like rain.
So Sweet...Oh Heavenly Smiles.
Photosynthesis,
As the rush enters the brain.
But this is a false spring
As it suddenly and abruptly wanes.
The leaves wither and die
And the colour from this life drains.
